Institutional Investor’s second annual ranking of Europe’s Most Shareholder-Friendly Companies in 31 industry sectors was tallied from the votes of more than 700 analysts and portfolio managers at more than 200 institutions that have in excess of $3 trillion invested in European stocks. These asset management professionals were all asked to name the companies they considered the most shareholder-friendly in the industry sector (or sectors) for which they were responsible. In making their choices, voters were instructed to consider the effectiveness of companies’ governance and investor relations as part of their overall efforts to maximize shareholder value. Respondents gave their first, second and third choices, which we weighted to produce a score for each company. We name the most shareholder-friendly companies in each of the 31 industry sectors surveyed for the 2007 All-Europe Research Team.
